At River Oaks Christian Church, our next couple of sermons will be taught on Ten Words: A study of the 10 Commandments.

This past week’s sermon was be based around Proverbs 3 verses 5-6. It covered these two verses, along with beginning a relationship with Jesus today. It also covered how to recommit your life to Jesus, along with pointing out one thing or area in your life that YOU need to TRUST God more.

“Trust the Lord with all your heart, and don’t depend on your own understanding. Remember the Lord in all you do, and he will give you success.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

For this upcoming week sermon will be about “In God We Trust”. It will bounce off of last week’s outlook and believing in God’s trust. A couple of verses will be pulled from the Bible to help identify the idols, emotions and worship with God.

The first reading is from Exodus 20:4-5, “You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods.” It will cover what is an idol, the tradition and anything that takes the place of God.

After we discuss that, we will move along to scripture readings from Deuteronomy, Isaiah, and Ezekiel. These readings will discover our idols of our HEART, along with the identity of our idols. Some questions will be asked such as “What do you think about?” and “What are you living for?”

Sunday’s sermon will help you identify the idols of your heart by asking yourself certain, personal questions.

“When people’s thinking is controlled by the sinful self, they are against God, because they refuse to obey God’s law and really are not even able to obey God’s law.” This is a reading from Romans 8:7. Another scripture from Ephesians 5:5 reads, “For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person- such a man is an idolater- has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.” This reading makes you wonder to the financial side of your life. Where your money going and how are you living your life?

The sermon goes on about your uncontrolled emotions and how you deal with them, along with getting rid of your idols for God.

Identifying your idols will come easy compared to others. Thinking about idols, how you’re managing your money, what you’re living for and uncontrolled emotions can help with worshipping to the ONE TRUE GOD.
