Jenks Church Missions- Tis the season for giving thanks and being thankful! “…in everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”- 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Thanksgiving isn’t just about the yummy food and desserts. It’s about giving thanks and being thankful for what you have. Family, friends, and healthy life are great things to be thankful for this Thanksgiving season. Food is another part of being thankful for many. This year, River Oaks Christian Church is giving back to the community, along with holding a Thanksgiving service.
River Oaks Christian Church’s Jenks Community Thanksgiving Outreach has been implemented and been going on. Last Friday night and this upcoming Friday night at Jenks High School Football Stadium, there has been and will be drop off boxes for canned goods for Thanksgiving. The canned goods along with raised money for turkey will help and reach out to school district families that need assistance. Giving these families a turkey and canned goods to prepare a hot and home cooked meal for the holiday will make their holidays more enjoyable, and supplying them a meal. The goal is to reach 200 families, so if you’re coming out for the football game this Friday, bring a canned good or a couple! The pickup will start Monday, November 23 for families to come by the church and pick up their meal for that Thursday.
As for Thanksgiving service, River Oaks Christian Church will be holding a service that following Sunday. The service will be ran a bit differently than every Sunday. The Thanksgiving service will consist of the congregation’s testimonies. These testimonies contain their thanks and what they are thankful for this season. People are welcomed to come up and share their thankfulness with the rest of the congregation on Sunday, November 22 2015. Our Thanksgiving service will begin at 10:30 AM with a lunch to follow. The lunch will be served at the church, so we invite everyone to gather, socialize, and eat after the morning service.
What should be the focus of Thanksgiving?
There are many things to focus on this Thanksgiving. The Bible gives many examples throughout that relate to Thanksgiving. Many individuals offered up sacrifices in the book of Genesis, along with songs from the Israelites sang crossing the Red Sea in Exodus 15. The Bible also talks about Harvest and Pentecost and Feast of Ingathering in Leviticus that involve the remembering of God’s provision and grace.
One of the prominent books that displays Thanksgiving is Psalms. The book of Psalms if full of Thanksgiving songs, God’s grace, His mighty deeds, and individual grace and attention to everyone in the world.
There is a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving and holiday season. It doesn’t matter what we don’t have, but it matters what we do have. Being able to cherish the moments with the ones we love is the best thing to be thankful for.
Come join Jenks Church Missions on Thanksgiving Sunday service and share what you’re thankful for or donate for our community families!
