Christian Church- “God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16

This famous statement and bible verse is the explanation of why God sent Jesus to earth. Christmas isn’t just about friends, family, food, and presents. It’s about his presence and embracing him.

The whole purpose around Christmas is the love of God. God loves you! God is with you! God is for you! Christmas is the time to spread the word and celebrate that God loves you! Christmas surrounds the love of God and shows it by coming to earth as a human to trust and get to know him. Most theologians would refer to this as incarnation. He became one of us, in order to understand what he is really like.

He’s created this world in order for us to have a personal relationship with him. When he sent Jesus, it was a sign that he loves us and needs us.

A verse from Luke 2:10, “I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.” When he said this, he wasn’t just meaning that you got a nice Christmas bonus or have finished all of your Christmas shopping. He was simply talking about Jesus.

Christmas is about rejoicing! Shouting to the heavens above! Zechariah 9:9 states, “Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”

So, what about the richer things in our lives that provide us with enjoyment? Richer things such as our smartphones, iPads, and technology driven gadgets. Not exactly. God has given us the richer things in life such as our taste buds. Our taste buds can savor incredible flavors like chocolates and spices. He gave us the sight of seeing. Our eyes are capable to view the world in color and in full perspective. He gave us sensitive ears to fill up with music and noise. The pure enjoyment of life is what he’s given us.

Instead of providing us with materialistic items, he’s provided us with a life worth remembering. As in the Bible, God says, “richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.” God said this because he wanted to, not because he had to.

Christmas is about sharing God’s love for him and one another. So, this Christmas season, should, “Merry Christmas” for the one and only.
