Jenks Church- Have you ever wondered about time? What actually is time itself?

Time is a measurement of movement. We live in a universe of movement where the earth moves around the sun at a speed of 19.2 miles per second. Even though that seems quite fast, it takes an entire year to make the trip around the sun.

When was time created? It was created on the fourth day of creation, according to Genesis 1: “God put the great lights in the sky, to give us times and seasons and days and years.”

When we view the sun’s movement, we tend to see it go from east to west when in reality it’s the earth turning on its axis. With the moon and earth spiraling around one another, the moon is capable of moving quicker around earth. The movement of the ocean tides gives us evidence to this. You can look at it as the sloshing water inside a bath tub, but think much more balance of the earth, moon, and sun.

What would we do without time? We wouldn’t be aware of the time to go to work or school or rest. As humans, we use time to schedule our lives and make plans for the future. If the understanding of God is correct- then God is beyond time. He doesn’t pass through time as we seem to. God acts as the Alpha and Omega, the first and the last. Psalmist says, “from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.” God is not limited to time rather he is transcendent, above time and space. He is also immanent within the time and space, he is unlimited! Before Abraham into being, I AM!

God created everything. From the very first time, he walked with Adam and Eve in the garden when he appeared before Abraham, he was “the fear of Isaac”. He presented himself in our time to reveal himself to us humans.

If you want proof of God, the very best evidence is circumcision. In Israel, it was a patriarchal culture that was ruled by men and no one thought that man would ever invent circumcision! It was very painful and an expensive operation. At the time, Abraham didn’t have the right tools or a medical degree, he only owned flint knives.

The first mention of circumcision was in Genesis 17:10, when Abraham was 99 years old. He had 318 trained men in the camp, and God said to perform the circumcision on the 8th day. Jesus was circumcised on that day, and it was the first time his blood was shed.

In Judaism, the 7th day was a special day. So, why was it to be on the 8th day? According to the book, None of These Diseases, written by two M.D.’s, it states: “on the eighth day the fibrinogen level in the blood- the clotting agent- is higher than at any other time in the baby’s life. Since God created us, he knows us completely. He knew on the eighth day that was safest day for circumcision. Since that, Isaac and every other Jewish boy was circumcised on the 8th day. That is proof of God, look at circumcision.

According to various hints in the Bible, time doesn’t have a meaning to God. He doesn’t need time because he created it as a gift for us.

“Redeem the time, because the days are evil.” Paul the Apostle wrote this, and says that we should use our time to help others and get to know God better. Just knowing God and his son Jesus Christ is eternal life.
